Gus turns 2

My sweet boy is two.  I don't know what to say about that.  It's gone entirely too fast, but I've loved watching him grow into the gregarious, affectionate, happy little boy that he is.
We celebrated with a small family party.  Airplane themed, of course.  Gus was thrilled.
(His adorable little pilot cap - because I know y'all are going to ask - is from this adorable etsy shop.  Jess was wonderful to work with and the hat is even more precious in person.  I think we'll let Gus wear it as a winter hat this year!)

The decorations were all things we had already (or were able to borrow).  My mom had an old atlas that she let me cut up to make all the airplanes.  The globes, art, metal airplane, etc. were all gathered from my house and mom and dad's.  (We did buy the balloons.  I waited until the day of, and wasn't able to find plain old latex balloons like I wanted, so we went with these.)
The cake.  Admittedly, it's not so pretty.  Keith requested that I try frosting my homemade ice cream cake with store-bought frosting.  It didn't go so well.  But it tasted amazing.  This year we left out the cake layers completely and did cookies 'n creme ice cream layers, oreo layers, and of course, the fudgy chocolate layer. Ahh-maaaaz-ing.
My parents (aka Ami and Popo), my sister, brother-in-law, 2 nieces, and our "adopted" daughter, Taylor, all celebrated with us.  Some of Gus' favorite people on earth.
We ate dinner on borrowed airplane-style trays.  The nieces thought that was cool.
Blowing out the candles (kind of).
This is how we do chocolate cake around here.  Nakey-style.  Isn't he the most adorable two year-old ever?
This photo is so Lula.  Her smile lights up the room.
They were happy to give up their party outfits to get a slice of that cake.
Gus got a knight cape as a gift.  He was really into it.  Of course, it wasn't complete without his pilot hat and a tie he retrieved from his bedroom.  He's such a ham!
Happy birthday, sweet boy.  We love you more than you can know, and can't wait to see what the next year brings!
